Me You Them

Directed by Andrucha Waddington. A true story that comically depicts the relationship between Darlene (Regina Case), an ordinary woman, and her three husbands, who live in the same house in a poor and arid village of the Brazilian northeast. Rather than move from one man to the next, she collects them into an unlikely but surprisingly practical ménage a quatre. This simple narrative of romantic complication, gracefully and easily unfolds under Waddington’s direction. The movie, like all the men in it, belongs to Ms. Case, who radiates a full-bodied, mature sexuality not seen on film since love Italian style went out of fashion. Me You Them is an unexpected delight that weds the humor and magic of a folk tale, with a very modern feel for the psychological dynamics between men and women and for the subtle politics of male rivalry in a macho culture. (In Portuguese with English subtitles). A Sony Pictures Classics release.
