Directed, written (with Connie Gault) and produced (with David Christensen) by Robin Schlaht. Solitude is an exploration of the fleeting interconnections that arise one summer between two women on retreat and a monk at a rural monastery. Each, an awkward 19-year-old sent by her parents as a working guest, a 35-year-old woman in a troubled relationship and a monk who seems to be in the midst of inner conflict, is looking for answers to faith and purpose, love and identity. In his first dramatic feature film (after three successful documentaries), Schlaht has created a marvelous palate of quiet strength (along with stirring performances) in this beautiful, spiritual and thought-provoking film.
