Written (with Fernando Castets) and directed by Juan José Campanella. A 2002 Academy Award nominee for Best Foreign Film, Son of the Bride examines the mid-life crisis of a stressed-out restaurant worker. While Rafael (Ricardo Darín) cares for his ailing mother and contends with an ex-wife, he receives an offer to sell his family's restaurant and out-of the blue is struck with a heart attack. This psychologically canny and at times quite humorous film is an education in sorting out one’s life and deciding just what our priorities should be. Also starring Héctor Alterio, Claudia Fontan, Gimena Nóbile and Natalia Verbeke. In Spanish with English subtitles. A Sony Pictures Classics release.
