In this soothing comedy from Czechoslovakia, the incorrigibly irresponsible codger is one of those old folks who refuses to play by the rules or act his age. Breaking the rules means racking up expensive restaurant bills, staging madcap pranks and impersonating others. The movie was written expressly for its late star, Vlastimil Brodsky, (Closely Watched Trains and Jacob the Liar) whose wife in the film was a close friend for 55 years, and the two perform as a long-married couple with a stirring emotional resonance. Directed by Vladimir Michalek. Written by Jiri Hubac. Produced by Jarsslav Kucera, Jiri Bartoska and Jaroslav Boucek. Starring Vlastimil Brodsky, Stella Zazvorkova and Stanislav Zindulka. Director of Photography, Martin Strba. In Czech with subtitles.
