GRIMM

Tuesday, July 27 at 7 pm
New York Premiere - Netherlands - 103 minutes

Written and directed by Alex van Warmerdam
With Halina Reijn, Jacob Derwig, Carmelo Gómez, Elvira Mínquez

In Grimm, van Warmerdam travels from the cold, misty northern woods of his native Netherlands, to the sunnier, yet still dark vistas of Spain, telling a post-modern fairy tale of Hansel and Gretel gone awry. But this time around it's Jacob and his sister, Marie, who are abandoned in the woods by their family. In his coat, Jacob finds a note from his mother urging them to find their uncle in Spain. “A modern-day Hansel and Gretel combines deadpan humor and energizing bursts of physical comedy with David Lynchian weirdness and menace, resulting in a bracingly original fairy tale.” David Rooney (Variety ) Produced by Marc van Warmerdam. Cinematographer: Tom Erisman. A Fortissimo Film courtesy of Holland Film. In Dutch and Spanish with subtitles.
