Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress is a beautiful and
picturesque coming-of-age tale set in the early ‘70s during China’s
cultural revolution. Two educated young men are sent to a Maoist
"rehabilitation" camp in the mountains. It is a story about youth,
love and courage, but it is also about the transformative power
of books. Adapted for the screen by Sijie Dai, the filmmaker, who is
also the author of the international bestselling novel. Produced by
Lise Fayolle. Cinematographer: Jean-Marie Dreujou.
