Sponsored by The Village Voice
|
Are you a filmmaker who wants to make your own independent film? Are you afraid of how much it
will cost or lack the courage to just do it? This informal seminar will open your eyes to this possibility,
from inception through post-production. Veteran indie filmmaker John Putch recounts how he has
done just that with his latest production called Mojave Phone Booth screening July 23 at 9:30 pm.
His award-winning independent films include: Valerie Flake, Pursuit of Happiness (Closing Night, 2002
Stony Brook Film Festival) and Bachelorman. In addition to countless hours of TV episodes and
movies-of-the-week, Putch’s latest TV project was the $20 million remake of The Poseidon Adventure,
which aired on NBC last fall.
Join John for a candid, eye-opening session filled with real answers and insight on how he made
Mojave Phone Booth for a fraction of the cost of a Hollywood film. Guests include co-writer/producer
Jerry Rapp.
The seminar is included with your Festival Pass purchase.

Alan Alda starred for eleven years in the television series, M*A*S*H,
for which he won 5 Emmy Awards. He wrote (or co-wrote) twenty

writing, and directing for the same series. In addition to his Emmys,
Alda has won the Writer's Guild Award twice and received the coveted
Humanitas Award for writing the "Dreams" episode of M*A*S*H
(from a story by Alda and James Jay Rubinfier). His memoir, Never Have Your Dog Stuffed, was published
by Random House in September, 2005.
Mr. Alda has earned international recognition as an actor, writer and director. His distinguished film

On Broadway, Mr. Alda has starred in numerous award-winning productions including Glengarry Glen
Ross, QED, Jake’s Women, The Apple Tree, The Owl and the Pussycat, Purlie Victorious and Fair Game for
