Wrath of Gods

Wednesday, July 25, 7:00 pm
N.Y. Premiere—Canada/Iceland—72 minutes
Directed by Jon Gustafsson.
Written by Jon Gustafsson and Karolina Lewicka.
With members of cast and crew of the 2006 feature film Beowulf & Grendel

When Canadian director Sturla Gunnarsson and his crew set upon Iceland to film Beowulf & Grendel in 2004, they expected the usual complications involved in making a movie, but what they encountered— including natural disasters, financial crises and ill-fated pagan blessings—made them believe the Norse Gods were actually against them. A documentary about “sheer demented ambition” (Sarah Polley), so incredible, you have to see it to believe it.

Filmmaker Jon Gustafsson, hired to play a small part as one of Beowulf’s warriors, had lots of time on the set with lots of time to kill, so he jumped at every opportunity to capture the story behind the scenes with his video camera. The results are truly astounding! Produced by John Gustafsson and Karolina Lewicka.
